Twenty years ago, the Convention on Biological Diversity in Rio de Janeiro was enacted, Brian Mulroney, Kim Campbell, and Jean Chrétien were Prime Minister(s), the Nunavut Act was passed, the Blue Jays won the world series, and the organizational meeting of EECOM was held in Merrickville, ON.
This year we commemorate those 20 years with another fabulous gathering of Canada’s environmental education and communication community in Victoria, British Columbia. We’ll gather in the territories of the Coast and Straits Salish People at the University of Victoria Faculty of Education and explore other local settings for three days of learning and experiences.
The theme for this year will encourage rich and engaging collaboration so bring your hearts and minds to Victoria!

Canadian Master Trainer Update Training
July 2, 2013 – December 31, 2013The University of Victoria is providing web-based update training for the 2012 Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) to those who have previously been trained as Master Trainers or T-Trainers in the CDSMP.
CRITERIA FOR TAKING THE UPDATE TRAINING
(At least one of the following conditions must be met)- active and certified and has conducted at least one Leader Training within the last 18 months
- an active and certified T-Trainer who has conducted at least one Master Training or Leader Training within the last 18 month
- someone who has completed their Master Training within 6 months and whose certification is in progress
What is the Format for the Update Training?The update training is being conducted in 2 parts. Each part is approximately 3 hours.
Part 1: Complete a pre-webinar assignment. This is self-study which can be done any day and time that is convenient to you. You will be asked to watch a series of videos and fill out an assigned worksheet for which you should allow approximately 3 hours. You must complete the pre-webinar assignment during the 2 weeks prior to the webinar training and submit it to canmtrng@uvic.ca no later than 8.00 a.m. (PST) four business days prior to the webinar.
Part 2: Attend a real-time webinar conducted by a certified T-Trainer. You will need access to a computer and telephone line. This webinar will last approximately 3 hours. Each online training will have between 12 and 24 trainees. Registration, completion of the Trainee Background Information and receipt of payment is required to secure a place in the training session. Training slots are limited and are filled on a first come first serve when full payment has been received.
How do I access the Part 1 - Pre-webinar assignment?
Approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the webinar training date you have selected, you will be sent an email containing a link to the Stanford training site. The email will contain the user name and password required to access the site. In order to proceed to Part 2 of the training, your homework MUST be emailed to canmtrng@uvic.ca no later than 8.00 a.m. (PST) four business days prior to the webinar date. No exceptions. Homework not returned on time will result in rescheduling of the webinar you have chosen.
How do I access Part 2: the Webinar?
We will email you an invitation to access the webinar. This email will contain the dates and times as well as any other instructions that you will need. The webinar will last approximately 3 hours. If we do not achieve the minimum of 12 persons for a training to proceed, we will contact you with respect to rescheduling.Once I am updated for the 2012 CDSMP, can I update CDSMP Leaders using the web format?
No. Updating CDSMP Leaders must be done face-to-face. You will receive an Update Manual for a 1- day Update Leader Training.
How do I register and pay for update training?First, CREATE AN ACCOUNT and then click REGISTER and follow the prompts. You will also need to complete the attached TRAINEE BACKGROUND INFORMATION form and ensure it is returned to us. Your place in your chosen webinar will not be guaranteed until payment is received. The fees for this training are $262.50 CDN per person including GST.
If your licensed organization is making payment on your behalf, it would have been issued with a fee code which you will need to provide to complete this registration.
If you are making payment for yourself, we accept MasterCard and Visa. Your statement will show “UVic Library Conferences”.
APPLICATION – Training slots are limited; first come, first served when full payment is received.
CANCELLATION – No refunds within three weeks of webinar training. Credit for future training available if webinar training is cancelled by the University of Victoria.
RESCHEDULING DEADLINE – Trainees must advise the University of Victoria ( canmtrng@uvic.ca ) if they are unable to participate in their scheduled webinar at least 3 weeks prior to the webinar, otherwise a $150.00 + GST CDN re-scheduling fee will be charged.
You will receive an automated acknowledgement from UVic when you submit your registration and then emails from canmtrng@uvic.ca for all future correspondence.
